Central Library

Library is situated in the midst of all departments and hostels and is easily accessible to all/everyone in the campus. The total carpet area of Library is 500 sq. feet. All students, faculty members and staff of the Institute are entitled to make use of the Library facilities and services. Industrial establishments / Corporate houses can also avail the services of Library on taking Institutional / Corporate membership of the Library. Library consultation facilities are also available to faculty and students of outside Institutes / Organization on request.

About The Library :

The Central Library acts as the primary information resource centre and repository of all printed and e-resources that supports teaching, research and all the academic activities of the Institute. The Central Library, NIT Delhi started its operation in the year 2012-13 (10 June 2012) at Delhi from a temporary space provided by Government of Delhi at Integrated Institute of Technology, Sector-9, Dwarka, Delhi to facilitate the access to the library facilities to the faculty and students of the Institute. It moved to its present location at IAMR Campus, Narela Institutional Area on 18th February 2014. It is housed on the first floor of the building in midst of the campus with beautiful surroundings which is easily accessible from all departments and hostels. It is just opposite to and very near to Computer Centre. All the faculty members, students and staff of the Institute are entitled to access the library facilities and services. The library is growing rapidly with exponential increase in number and type of collection to serve the information needs of the clientele in the field of Engineering, Science & Technology.

General Conduct & Motto of the Library :

Every member of library team shall exhibit the highest level of professional conduct in discharging their duties. The Staff members are expected to be in their sections unless otherwise their work takes them away from the desk. Providing polite, friendly and efficient service without any discrimination among the users shall be the motto of the library.

Library have proper directions/guideposts for the users to move around the library looking for resources/services.

Library Management System :

The library uses Web-based Libsys 7 Library Automation Software for the automation of various activities and services of the Library. Libsys allows Federated Searching with customizable features, RSS Feeds and integration facility with External databases. The library uses User notification facility for sending overdue notices via Email or SMS alerts.

RFID Implementation in the Library :

The Library has implemented the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) System in the year 2014. It is the best automated library automation system used across the World and is very effective way of managing Library resources. Some of the major benefits of the RFID system include self check-out/Check-in facility of books by the users, to control theft, to track the misplaced reading material, sorting, inventory accuracy, stock verification procedures, security control, material handling, video surveillance, people counter, Smart Card issuance, etc. RFID is a combination of radio -frequency-based technology and microchip technology. The information contained on microchips in the tags affixed to library materials is read using radio frequency technology regardless of item orientation or alignment. RFID helps to reduce valuable staff time spent on scanning barcodes while charging and discharging items.

  • Points to Remember

    • Circulation counter shall remain closed during 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. for lunch break.
    • Self Issue/check out available till library is open (Library Hours).
    • Book Bank will be circulated at the beginning of the each Semester.
    • Textbook Section will remain operational all through the opening hours of the Library on all working days.
    • No issue and return on Sunday & Institute's holidays.
    • Special arrangements will be made to keep the Library open till late hours during the examinations.

    General Rules :

    • All library users must sign In/Out register available with the attendant at the main gate of the Library.
    • While entering the library, user should leave his/her personal belongings such as bags, personal books etc. at the property counter reserved for this purpose. Loose papers and notebooks may however be taken into the library. Users leaving the library should permit the library staff to examine their personal belongings (if asked). The users are advised not to leave any valuable/expensive items at the property counter.
    • Library is not responsible for any loss of personal belongings. All files, books and notebooks must be presented to the security guard at the checkpoint for inspection while leaving the Library. Library does not permit any exception in the observance of this rule.
    • All the users will enter in the library with their Identity Card.
    • The Readers shall keep silence within the library premises.
    • Use of cellular phones or any other audio/video device is strictly prohibited in the Library premises. If readers wish to keep them while using the Library, they must be switched off or in silent mode.
    • Smoking, eating, drinking, sleeping and talking loudly are strictly prohibited in the Library.
    • Reference Books/Magazines are strictly prohibited outside the library.
    • If any student is found indulging in book hiding, stealing or mutilating, disciplinary action will be taken against him/her.
    • The member would satisfy himself/herself before leaving the issue counter as to whether the book is in good condition or not otherwise he may be held responsible.
    • Books/Documents taken out of the shelves must be left on the table. Replacing the documents on shelves by users is not encouraged as the documents may get misplaced.
    • Do not spend more than half an hour to locate the documents. If you experience any difficulty in locating the required material, Please contact the Library Staff/librarian.
    • Readers should not mark, underline, write, or tear pages or otherwise damage the library documents including books/magazines/journals etc.
    • Students are advised not to issue Books to others on their names.
    • No photograph of the Library shall be taken without the prior permission of the Librarian.
    • Library reserves the right to call back any issued book/item at any time.
    • Violation of library rules or misconduct by a member may invite discontinuation of the library privileges.
    • The Librarian, with the approval of the competent authority reserves the right to add, delete, or modify any of these rules as and when required.
    • Contact the staff on duty/section staff for any queries.
    • Keep the Library premises tidy.
    • Suggestions on all aspects of library services are welcome.

    Project Gutenberg is the first and largest single collection of over 50,000 free eBooks which can be downloaded or read Online by the users. Michael Hart, founder of Project Gutenberg, invented e-Books in 1971 and continues to inspire the creation of eBooks and related technologies today. The Project Gutenberg website is for human users only. Any real or perceived use of automated tools to access the website will result in a block of our IP address.

      Library Membership

    • All students, faculty members and staff of the institute are eligible for the membership of the Institute library for using its facilities and services offered for the purpose of their academic, research and administrative work. Use of library facilities and services implies acceptance of its rules and procedures.
    • Membership privileges of a user may be suspended/cancelled at the discretion of the Competent Authority/Librarian on account of misbehavior with the Library staff or for indecent manners/unscrupulous act.

  • The NIT Delhi has partnered with Knimbus to launch 'NIT Delhi eLibrary' which is India's first library mobile application for its students. This 'Mobile App' is available for free on the Google Playstore. This 'Mobile App' updates the users about the current resources of library (Printed and E-Resources) and provides the access to the thousands of E-books, subscribed E-Databases and various other Electronic Resources anytime (i.e. 24x7) from anywhere in the World.
