Prof. (Dr.) Obbu Chandrasekhar is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Delhi, a position he has held since November 4, 2024. A distinguished academic, researcher, and administrator, Dr. Chandrasekhar brings nearly two decades of teaching, research, and institutional leadership experience to the institute.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Chandrasekhar served as Associate Professor at NIT Delhi (2022–2024) and at NIT Srinagar, J&K (2018–2022), and as Professor at Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation (KL University) from 2014 to 2018. He began his academic career as Assistant Professor at Vignan's Lara Institute of Technology and Science in 2007, later rising to Associate Professor there. Over the years, he has held several significant administrative positions, including Professor In-Charge (Training & Placement), Dean (Planning and Development), Chairman NIRF, Chairman CPC, Estate Officer, Head Training and Placement Officer, Associate Dean (Students' Welfare), and Senate Member, among several other institutional and departmental committee roles.

Dr. Chandrasekhar's academic journey reflects consistent excellence. He completed his Diploma in Electrical and Electronics from SES and SNM Polytechnic, Khammam, in 2000, followed by a B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (with Distinction) from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad, in 2005, and an M.Tech in Power Electronics and Electric Drives (with Distinction), also from JNTU Hyderabad, in 2008. He earned his Ph.D. in Power Electronics and Electric Drives from JNTU Hyderabad in May 2014.

With over 18 years of teaching and research experience, Dr. Chandrasekhar's work spans key areas of electrical engineering, including: Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Control of Special Machines, Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), Electrical Machines.

Dr. Chandrasekhar has published 51 research papers in SCI/Scopus-indexed international journals (H-index: 12; Citations: 334) and over 25 papers in national and international conferences. He has authored/co-authored three books/book chapters, published with Springer, IntechOpen, and PHI Learning. He holds 13 filed patents, several of which have been granted, in areas such as flux reversal machines, switched reluctance motors, and fuel cell control systems. He has secured or applied for sponsored research funding worth several crores from agencies including the Ministry of Education/ADB, ANRF (SERB), and has completed multiple funded projects. As a mentor, he has supervised/co-supervised 12 Ph.D. scholars, seven of whom have been awarded their degrees, with five currently pursuing research under his guidance. He has also founded an EV-focused start-up, Advanced E-Mobility Private Limited, registered under the MSME framework, in July 2025.

Dr. Chandrasekhar has received recognitions including the Best Teacher Award, Teacher of Excellence, and the Best Dean Planning & Development and T&P Professor In-Charge Award. He also serves as a reviewer for IET Power Electronics, Taylor & Francis journals, Electrical Power & Systems (Elsevier), and DST-SERB research projects.

Prof. (Dr.) Obbu Chandrasekhar continues to contribute significantly to NIT Delhi's academic, research, and administrative growth, with a strong focus on advancing power electronics research and promoting institutional excellence.
