Prof. (Dr.) Hitesh Sharma has officially assumed the position of Registrar at the
National Institute of Technology (NIT) Delhi on January 8, 2025. A distinguished
academic and administrator, Dr. Sharma brings a wealth of experience and expertise
to this pivotal role.
Currently on deputation, Dr. Sharma is a Professor in the Department of Physics at IK Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. Over the years, he has held several significant academic and administrative positions, including Dean (Research & Development), Dean (Planning and External Programs), Dean (Faculty of Applied Sciences), Director (IQAC), Head of Department, Chairman of the Board of Studies, and Incharge of the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat, among others.
Dr. Sharma’s academic journey is equally remarkable. He completed his B.Sc. (NM) from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla in 1996, followed by an M.Sc. (Hons) in Physics in 1998, and earned his Ph.D. from Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 2005.
With over two decades of teaching and research experience, Dr. Sharma's contributions span cutting-edge areas of physics and materials science. His research interests include: Carbon nanostructures, Pure and doped nanoclusters, Two- dimensional (2D) nanomaterials and their heterostructures, Complex metal hydrides for solid-state hydrogen storage, Perovskites, High entropy alloys, MXenes for energy applications.
Dr. Sharma has published more than 100 research papers in peer-reviewed international and national journals and conferences, authored two research books, and successfully completed three research projects. He has participated in more than 50 National and international conferences and has delivered more than 40 invited talks in FDPs/Workshops/Seminars/Conferences. As a mentor, he has guided 10 Ph.D. students, with four more currently pursuing their research under his supervision. He was awarded the DST’s SERB young scientist award in 2012.
Prof. (Dr.) Hitesh Sharma is looking forward to contributing administratively to the institute’s growth and promote excellence in academics and research.
